WIQP Mobile Postings
Below are WIQP-related postings from direct
email, the WIQP reflector and County Hunters Website, Planned Trips page.
W9DND
The 2015 WI QSO Party will be the last for the duo of W9DND
& K0PC. John, W9DND, is retiring from the QSO Party Driver game after this
event. I want to thank John for hauling me around MN, WI, & IA for over ten
years. We have had some great success over the years and hope to go out with a
bang (metaphorical, not literal).
Here is the planned route for 2015.
Vernon 1800z, La Crosse 1820z, Monroe 1840z, Jackson 1910z,
Trempealeau 1950z, Buffalo 2010z, Pepin 2030z, Eau Claire 2050z, Dunn 2115z,
Chippewa 2140z, Rusk 2220z, Barron 2245z, Polk 2325z, St Croix 0005z, Pierce
0040z.
As always we will operate CW primarily on 40M
& 20M, with excursions to 80M at the end. We will use W9DND as our call.

Current plan, God willing and the creek don't rise, is to
run CLA, EAU, JAC, TRE, BUF, PEP, DUN, PIE, and STE. As its all for fun, its
all going to be CW only, 20, 40, and 80m.
Long range wx forecast is looking
promising.

Weather permitting, my brother-in-law plans to drive for the
WIQP and we will probably hit the southwest corner of the state as we often
have in the past. Probably starting around Green, Lafayette,
Dane, then west and north, ending at Marquette, Green Lake, Fond du Lac, depending on
how the time goes. Exact route will come
later. CW only. Hopefully the new rig will set up OK in the
new minivan. Replaced
the old minivan after 285,000 miles this past fall.

I plan on operating mobile for the first time in several
years. Back and shoulder surgeries have kept me at my operating desk here in
POR, but I think I can handle the preparation and seven-hour drive this year.
Craig, W9OD, will again be my driver and
county-line lookout. He and I have known each other since high-school days in
Waupaca (ca. 1960).
The route will take us through 17 counties in
this order:
CAL, WIN, FON, DOD, WAS, MIL, WAU, JEF, DAN,
COL, MRQ, WSR, ADA, WOO, POR, WAP, and OUT. All operation
will be on CW.
Setup is laptop running N1MM, K3, and mag-mounted Hamsticks and
Hustlers atop Dodge Grand Caravan. Top of 80M stinger is 13', 8" above
road surface, just high enough to tickle the underside of two overpasses on
I-894 around Milwaukee!
Running mobile in the WIQP is a hoot! But it takes a lot of planning, preparation,
perseverance, and sometimes just plain luck. Tuning four resonators atop a van
roof, standing on a stepladder in the cold and wind, is a trial. Get one tuned,
and the others detune :). Hitting the right keys on the laptop and sending
flawless CW with the paddle at 70 mph on a curving, bumpy road in the wind is
nigh-well impossible. Ignition noise and electrical transmission lines cover up
weak signals. And the bladder cries out, "where is the next rest
stop?" LOL! I can't wait to get
back to it.
If the weather is truly horrible, I'll either
operate mobile from several nearby counties or from home.
Hope to work you all many times.

Todd, N9NE/M
K9TIT
K9TIT will be participating in the WI QSO Party again this year, the operators will be Tim KC9FSH and Andy KC9IZF. We
will be returning to going mobile as we have taken the last few years off from
mobile and instead operated at my house. We will have 75m-70cm capabilities but
band conditions will determine what band we will be operating. We will always
have a 2m radio on and will be able to switch that radio quickly over to 70cm.
We have a very aggressive route planned and I
hope that we can make it to all the counties that we have planned, as long as
we don't stop too often we should make it. Here is the order that we plan on
operating from.
Door, Kewaunee, Brown, Manitowoc,
Sheboygan, Ozaukee,
Washington, Dodge, Fond, du, Lac, Columbia, Green, Lake, Marquette,
Waushara, Portage,
Waupaca, Winnebago

KD9CSI
Driver Lou KC9YYA and operators Scott KB9YUC & Larry
WB9KMW are ready for the WI QSO Party as a multi-operator, multiple-station
mobile for the first time using an ICOM 706 MKIIG (HF), Alinco
DR-135 (2m) & Byonics Micro-Trak

experimenter's club station.
Our frequencies are 2m simplex on 146.550 MHz

subsides in the evening. You will be able to follow our APRS trail via KD9CSI-6
on www.aprs.fi
We will begin up north after an overnight stay
in Minocqua and travel the county route:
Vilas, Iron, Price, Ashland,
Bayfield, Sawyer, Rusk, Chippewa, Taylor, Clark,

Bill and I are going to team up for a mobile adventure in
WIQP this year - better late than never.
The basic route will be south from Rhinelander and loop through Oneida, Lincoln, Langlade,
Menominee, Oconto, Forest, Florence, Vilas and
back to Oneida. Mostly phone operation.
It should be fun for two old farts that got
their Novice tickets together in 1955.

Wisconsin QSO party Mobile
trip. 1800Z - 0100Z
Well,
my two mobile partners (KK9K and N9BCA) have plans for Saturday, so we can't do
our usual up nort Saturday night adventure and drive
home Sunday trip.
So
we are gonna do it in reverse! Start in Central Wisconsin and end at KK9K's
cabin near Michigan border as he claims we can still get a steak in that neck
of the woods on a Sunday night! (i know for a fact we couldn't get
anything near my cabin in Florence
County on a Sunday
night! :-)
Doing
a quick review of mobile trips, it looks like after we put Oconto, Shawano,
Menomonee, and Marathon in the mobile map, there are 9 counties not hit by
mobiles...(Douglas, Washburn, Burnett, Dunn,
Marinette, Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, and Rock. Hopefully a fixed station will be active from
those, or other mobiles can pick them up.
Here
is our trip in order:
Clark,
Jackson, Wood, Juneau, Adams, Waushara, Marquette, Green Lake, Fond du Lac,
Winnebago, Outagamie, Brown, Oconto, Shawano, Menomonee, Langlade, Marathon,
Lincoln, Oneida, Vilas, Iron
Pretty
aggressive schedule and no guarantees we will complete it! Our last several counties are covered by
other mobiles, so be sure to get those guys early!!!
We
will be on WQP suggested frequencies + or - 3550, 7050, 14050, and hopefully
some SSB on + or - 3860, 7230, 14260. We will also be monitoring 2 meter FM
146.49 and 146.55.
I
will also be pinging APRS on my android phone as NE9U-9
Weather
looks great for a spring drive around Wisconsin!!!
NG9T
Better
late than never, KG9GH and I will be out as NG9T.
Probable
route: MRN, FLO, FOR, ONE, LIN, MAR, SHA, MEN, LAN, OCO.
Mostly 40 and 20. Mostly CW.
Looks
like a nice day to take a drive.
